Will I admired Royksopp for taking a risk with a more downbeat, instrumental album for their release of Senior, I wasn’t convinced they had pulled it off at first. I am still not sure they have. However, after spending some time with it today - giving it a good car ride jam, a work listening, and a surfing the web backgrounding, I have come to this conclusion - I like it. I’m not in love, but the more I listen to it, the more I understand it and respect the album. A lot of the tracks are repetitive and sort of morph melodies, making for a very relaxing listen. Whereas Royksopp’s previous releases were more energetic and driving, the album has the ability to calm and sooth. If you were unimpressed with the first listen or two, I urge you to give it another, keeping an open mind.
